The 2021 GMC Acadia is part of the second generation of this model introduced in 2017. As such, it only features some minor styling changes to the current model. Visual styling includes a chromed grille and fascia, plus wheel arches that are prominent and muscular. The AT4 and Denali trims have a bolder look, more so the AT4 has it gets off-road tires along with distinctive lighting and more chrome accents.
The biggest changes for the 2021 models come in packaging of features. The Driver Alert Packages I and II have been discontinued with features incorporated into other packages or as part of the Pro Safety Plus package. Pro Safety Plus, with an emphasis on driver-assistance features, is now standard on the SLT, AT4 and Denali. The Premium package for the SLT and AT4 trim now includes a heated steering wheel. The Technology Package, which includes a head-up display and 360-degree camera system is also available on the SLT and AT4 trims. All trims except the base trim get second-row captain’s chairs, while Cayenne Red Tintcoat, Hunter Metallic and Midnight Blue join the palette of available exterior colors.
Other notable changes include:
• The new Elevation Edition with black wheels and exterior trim
• Wireless functionality for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
• 18-inch alloy wheels now standard on the base SL trim
• Urethane steering wheel on SL and SLE trims
Buyers coming to Patriot Ardmore will have their choice of five trims: the SL, SLE, SLT, AT4 and Denali. Front-wheel drive is standard on most, while all-wheel drive is an option.
The SL base model gives buyers a seven-passenger capacity, thanks to a second-row bench seat. Standard features include a 2.5-liter 193 hp engine, a manual liftgate, keyless ignition and entry, tri-zone automatic climate control, eight-inch infotainment touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, five USB ports, OnStar with an onboard Wi-Fi hotspot, blind spot monitor and rear cross-traffic alert.
This trim is similar, with the exception that the second row gets captain’s chairs, reducing the seating to six. The SLE also has several options that aren’t available on the SL, such as satellite radio, power liftgate, automatic emergency braking and lane-keep assist. this trim and those above it can also get Elevation Edition Package that includes a black grill and exterior accent, gloss black roof rails, and 20-inch aluminum wheels with black accents and center caps.
The GMC Pro Safety Plus Package is available on the SLE and standard on all higher trims and includes a variety of driver assistance features like:
• Automatic emergency braking
• Front pedestrian braking
• Rear park assist
• Lane keep assist with lane departure warning
• Following distance indicator
• Forward collision alert
As the middle model of this mid-size SUV, the SLT gives buyers a bevy of included features that make the Acadia more powerful and comfortable. A turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine is standard, giving you one of the most fuel-efficient mid-size SUV with a ratings of 22 mpg city and 29 mpg highway. Buyers will also get roof rails for tying down additional luggage and cargo, a hands-free power liftgate, remote ignition, power-adjustable driver’s seat leather upholstery and a leather wrapped steering wheel, heated front seats, fog lights, household-style power outlet in the middle row, navigation system and an upgraded eight-speaker audio system with HD radio. The SLT also gets a suite of standard safety features including forward collision mitigation, lane keeping assist and automatic high beams.
If you want additional off-road capability, the athletic AT4 trim is for you. It comes equipped with a larger V6 engine with 310 hp, giving buyers the ability to tow up to 4,000 lbs. when equipped with GMC’s tow package. This package, which is also available on other trims includes a heavy-duty cooling system, class II trailer hitch, seven-pin wiring harness and hitch guidance with Hitchview. The AT4 also has several features that enhance off-road capability that are unique to this trim. These include unique 17-inch wheels with all-terrain tires, active twin-clutch all-wheel drive with components unique to the AT4 for greater traction, hill descent control and hill hold assist. The AT4 is the only trim that comes with two rows instead of three, with a maximum passenger capacity of five.
Although it does not have the same off-road capabilities as the AT4, the top-of-the-line Denali offers the best of all the prestigious features available on the Acadia. Standard features include ventilated front seat, heated second-row seats, driver-seat memory functions, power-folding heated mirrors, a head-up display ,a heated, power tilt/telescoping steering wheel and a wireless charging pad. A rear entertainment system and a second-row bench seat are other options. Additionally, Denali buyers can add two exclusive packages: the Technology Package and the Ultimate Package.
